NEW YORK – The tarp remains on the field here at Yankee Stadium as officials await this front to move through the area. They are currently showing the Giants-Bucs game on the big screen. Skies are brightening up, the tarp is coming off and they anticipate a 2:05 start.
Victor Martinez is getting a day off and when told by Terry Francona he didn’t fight him on it, a sign that Martinez also felt he needed it.
Jon Lester and Francona both indicated he’s on path to start Thursday’s game against the Indians. “Everything’s good. I feel fine,” he told the Globe’s Adam KIlgore. Lester said he had no swelling.
Francona indicated the acupuncture procedure Hideki Okajima had in Boston Saturday morning seemed to alleviate side sorenesss he was experiencing. Francona mentioned that Okajima has had a physical blip or two since joining the Red Sox but rest usually helps and gets him back on track.
Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said he will likely stay away from Jorge Posada one more day as the veteran backstop rests his stiff neck. Andy Pettitte will have about a 100-pitch limit, two starts after experiencing shoulder soreness. Johnny Damon gets a day off.
