There are drive-through banks, pharmacies, fast-food restaurants and even liquor stores depending where you live. But Anaheim might be the only place with the drive-through autograph.
As I was leaving Angel Stadium early yesterday evening, a black pickup truck and a blue Mini Cooper suddenly came racing over from the other end of the parking lot and screeched to a halt a few feet from were I was standing.
The occupants rushed out of their vehicles and approached the man who had come out of the ballpark a few feet behind me — Kevin Youkilis.
As Youk walked to meet a cab waiting for him, he signed a bat, two balls and a photograph.
One of the drivers, a young woman named Michelle, explained to me that some players come out of the front of the stadium and others off to the side. So the well-schooled autograph hounds sit in their idling cars in the middle and wait.
“If you’re fast, you can get there in plenty of time,” she explained.
Michelle asked me to leave her last name out.
“I know I seem a little crazy,” she said.
Yeah, just a little.
