(10:23, top 11th, Yankees 3, Twins 3)
Some of the worst umpiring so far in the extra season. How did leftfield umpire Phil Cuzzi miss Joe Mauer’s fair ball to left field? Cuzzi called it a foul ball when it clearly hit inside the foul line in left on Melky Cabrera’s attempt to catch it. The Twins loaded them up thanks in major part to Demaso Marte’s poor outing, but with no outs and the bases full, Dave Robertson got out of it by retiring Brendan Harris with a fly out.
(9:40, top 10th, Yankees 3, Twins 3)A-Rod has done it again. A two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth against Joe Nathan. Guess the post-season monkey is off his back. We’re in the 10th.
9:06, bottom eighth, Twins 3, Yankees 1)
The Twins are apparently trying to get themselves in position for a possible upset at the Metrodome where the series shifts for two games starting Sunday. In the 8th they broke a 1-1 tie against Phil Hughes and Mariano Rivera with a two out rally against Hughes. A Carlos Gomez walk and Brendan Harris single put runners at first and third. Gomez scored on Nick Punto’s single to center off Hughes and then Denard Span singled of Rivera scoring the third Twins run. Let’s see if they can hold off the Yankees.
(8:18, top seventh, Yankees 1, Twins 1)Yankees tied it in the bottom of the sixth on A-Rod’s clutch two-out single scoring Derek Jeter who hit a ground-rule double that bounced over the right-centerfield fence. Burnett is out after six. Joba Chamberlain has come on to pitch the seventh.
(7:56, bottom sixth, Twins 1, Yankees 0)
One run is huge in this game and the Twins have scored the first one. Pinch-hitter Brendan Harris, who hit for Matt Tolbert in the sixth, tripled off the left-center field fence on a failed attempt by Johnny Damon to make the catch. It scored Delmon Young, who walked, the fifth of the night by Burnett. This was after Robinson Cano singled with two outs in the fifth to break up Nick Blackburn’s no-no.
(7:32, bottom fifth, 0-0)Burnett living on the edge again. Two walks in the fifth with two outs, but gets out of it.
(7:16, top fifth, 0-0)
Through four innings, the Yankees do not have a hit off Twins starter Nick Blackburn.
(7:14, top fourth, 0-0)
The Yankees dodged a bullet on a base-running error by Twins OF Carlos Gomez. After Burnett hit two consecutive batters (Young and Gomez), Matt Tolbert singled to center. Young was around third about a stride or two from the plate when the throw from Melky Cabrera came into second base where Gomez had gone past second and heading for third when he put on the brakes and tried to get back to second. He was tagged out. Young, however, had not yet crossed home plate and therefore the run was not allowed.
(6:12, top first, 0-0)
First of all, how can you boo Joe Mauer? The three-time batting champ was booed in his first at-bat at Yankee Stadium tonight. Mauer walked. But Burnett fanned Jason Kubel. We’re heading to the bottom of the first.
(6:07, Game Underway)
