UPDATE, 10:04 p.m.: Yankees lead 3-1 as A-Rod walks with the bases loaded on a 3-1 pitch that looked like a strike. But Posada’s GIDP keeps the Angels in it. Yankees have missed the kill shot so far, leaving eight runners on base in four innings.

UPDATE, 9:50 p.m.: Another bases-loaded situation in the fourth inning and this time Damon singles in two. Yankees lead 2-1.

UPDATE, 9:18 p.m.: Los Angeles takes a 1-0 lead on Abreu’s RBI single. The former Yankees drove in Jeff Mathis, who started the inning with a double. Mathis had eight doubles in 237 at-bats during the season and has five in 14 at-bats in the postseason.

UPDATE, 9:04 p.m.: Johnny Damon came with the bases loaded in the second inning of an LCS game in Yankee Stadium. But unlike 2004, he didn’t belt a grand slam. Just a harmless grounder to first.

Yankees 0 for 2 with runners in scoring position tonight and 10 of 58 in the series.

UPDATE, 8:46 p.m.: Middle of the second and no score. Pettitte allowed an infield single by Vladimir Guerrero. But he strayed off first base on a pop-up to shallow right field and was doubled off by Nick Swisher. The Twins and Angels have made a pile of base-running mistakes against the Yankees in the postseason.

UPDATE, 8:28 p.m.: Crowd was hanging on every pitch in the first inning and Pettitte looked sharp. Meanwhile, two interesting baseball tidbits from today: Mark McGwire will be the hitting coach of the Cardinals and ESPN has canned Steve Phillips. One disgraced figure is out, another comes back.
