MLB to salute veterans prior to game

Interested in the pre-game festivities tonight? This news from Major League Baseball:

With First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden in attendance, tonight’s musical performances at Yankee Stadium will fit within the overall dedication of Game One of the World Series tonight to the Welcome Back Veterans program.

Former US Army Ranger Keni Thomas will perform the National Anthem prior to tonight’s game, with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX. Thomas was awarded the Bronze Star of Valor for service in the U.S. Army’s elite task force ranger unit in Somalia.

During the seventh inning, Sergeant First Class Kay Messenger will perform “God Bless America.” Messenger, a West Point soloist, performed the national anthem at Yankee Stadium on Opening Day in 2007.

Retired Army Captain Tony Odierno, joined on mound by Yogi Berra, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Odierno, a West Point graduate, served in the first cavalry division in Iraq, and was awarded a bronze star with valor and a purple heart for his bravery.
