MIT hosting sports analytics conference

MIT is hosting a terrific event on March 6 and there are still some tickets available. The Sloan Sports Analytic Conference will feature 13 different discussions over a span of nine hours.

Topics include baseball analytics with a panel that includes Tom Tippett, the director of baseball information services of the Red Sox along with John Dewan, Dan Duquette and Shiraz Rehman from the Diamondbacks. Rob Neyer of ESPN will moderate that discussion.

A discussion on the limits of “Moneyball” will be moderated by none other than Michael Lewis. That panel has Mark Cuban, Jonathan Kraft, Colts’ GM Bill Polian (booooo), Rockets’ GM Daryl Morey and Bill Simmons.

Others involved include: Nate Silver, David Samson, Matt Silverman, Steve Pagliuca, Hannah Storm, Brian Burke, Randy Vataha, Mike Gorman, Mark Verstegen from API, John Walsh, Darren Rovell and Sean McDonough.

Registration (and breakfast) starts at 7:30 a.m. The first panel is at 9 a.m. and there’s a reception at the end of the day.
