FORT MYERS, Fla. — Tim Wakefield was not permitted to go through the conditioning test with the rest of the pitchers today as the Red Sox are being extra cautious with his surgically repaired back. As his teammates huffed and puffed their way through a series of sprints, he played catch.
But Wakefield, who plans to talk to the media more extensively tomorrow, is feeling just fine.
Wakefield said he is ahead of schedule and that his doctors are thrilled with his progress. “This is the best I’ve felt in years,” he said.
