Here are the lineups for today’s game:
RED SOX (5-2)
Pitching: Jon Lester followed by Brian Shouse, Manny Delcarmen, Jonathan Papelbon, Hideki Okajima, Daniel Bard and Ramon Ramirez.
Pitching: LHP David Price followed by RHP Joaquin Benoit, RHP Richard De Los Santos, LHP Heath Phillips, RHP Dale Thayer.
Game time: 1:05 p.m.
Notes: No spring training start is important but Lester did get banged around the last time and could use a better performance. … Price, the one-time phenom, is looking for a rebound season after a 2009 season (10-7, 4.42) that was just OK. … The Sox have won three straight if you care about that sort of thing, which you really shouldn’t. … There is a press conference set up here in the press box (table, chairs, backdrop, etc.). Not sure what that is for, but it’s not for Beckett, not yet anyway.
UPDATE, 8:39 a.m.: Did not see Jason Varitek in the clubhouse this morning, or Mike Lowell. Varitek has not played since the BC game on March 3. Varitek is on the travel list for the game on Friday at Jupiter, however.
UPDATE, 8:55 p.m.: So it seems the press conference may be for Nomar Garciaparra to retire. He hasn’t played for the Red Sox since 2004, so why he feels the need to retire here today is uncertain. But there you have it.
The only Sox on the current roster who played with Nomar are Varitek, David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis and Tim Wakefield.
UPDATE, 12:20 p.m.: Jason Varitek has returned to the team. … J.D. Drew said he is still sick with a cold but expects to play tomorrow. … Daisuke Matsuzaka threw 65 pitches in the bullpen today, all from the stretch, and will play his first session of BP on Saturday.
