Burnett against the Sox: A.J. Burnett was tough against the Sox when he was with the Blue Jays. Not so since he joined the Yankees. He was 0-2, 8.85 in four starts against the Red Sox last season, 0-2, 14.21 at Fenway Park, giving up 20 earned runs on 22 hits over 12.2 innings. … Burnett had one of the worst games of his career (5 9 9 9 2 6, 3 HR) at Fenway on Aug. 22 as the Sox beat the Yankees 14-1.

Three for the road: According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera are the first trio of teammates to play together for 16 years in the history of the MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL.

More of Lester: Alex Rodriguez (4 of 16), Nick Swisher (2 of 15) Robinson Cano (5 of 22) and Jorge Posada (3 of 13) have not had much success against Jon Lester.

Lester was 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA in four starts against the Yankees last season.

Well compensated: According to USA Today’s survey of salaries, the Red Sox have a team record payroll of $162.4 million this season, a 33 percent increase from 2009. The only team spending more was the Yankees, who checked in at $206.3 million.

Back with more later.
