Ortiz has been bad, but he’s not the worst

Player A this season: 28 at-bats, .143/.226/.250, 1 extra-base hit, 13 strikeouts, 2 RBI

Player B this season: 26 at-bats, .154/.241/.269, 3 extra-base hits, 13 strikeouts, 2 RBI

Player A is J.D. Drew. Player B is David Ortiz.

So why does everybody want Ortiz sent to a retirement home and Drew is getting a free pass?

It’s certainly possible — if not probable — that Ortiz is deep into an irreversible decline. But we should be fair to the guy. He’s not the only one off to a brutal start.
