Globe colleague Amalie Benjamin has confirmed the Red Sox have summoned LHP Fabio Castro from Pawtucket.
He was the scheduled starter for the PawSox on Tuesday and can give the Sox length out of the bullpen if needed.
After using six relievers tonight, reinforcements were necessary. Castro is 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in three starts, but has struck out 13 in 10 innings. Castro has 30 games of big-league experience but hasn’t appeared in a game in the majors since a stint with the Phillies in 2007.
The 25-year-old has been with five organizations. He was with the Blue Jays last season, starting 29 games in the minors.
No word yet on who will be sent down. Scott Atchison would seem to be the likely candidate.
