Sox advisor Kapstein enters RI politics

Red Sox senior adviser Jeremy Kapstein has filed papers in Rhode Island to run for Lieutenant Governor. This step would allow him to raise money.

Kapstein, 66, would face incumbent Elizabeth Roberts in the Democratic primary.

In baseball circles, Kapstein is best known as the former CEO of the Padres and was the super agent of the 1970s and 80s, representing many of the star players in the game including Carlton Fisk, Rick Burleson and Fred Lynn.

Kapstein has been with the Red Sox since 2002 and was in the mix to become GM after the 2005 season during the Theo Epstein imbroglio.

Can’t say I know much about Ocean State politics. But Kapstein is an intelligent, engaging guy who never forgets a name and has a lot of influential friends. He could be a formidable candidate.
