Extra Bases

Could Iannetta catch on with the Sox?

Major League Trade rumors today looks at the case of Chris Iannetta, who was sent to Triple-A by the Rockies.

Might the Red Sox take a look at acquiring the Rhode Island native?

To do that would mean using Victor Martinez almost exclusively as a DH with occasional games at first base. So either David Ortiz or Mike Lowell would have to go.

Iannetta is signed through the end of the 2012 season. He gets $2.55 in 2011 and $3.55 in 2012 with either a $5 million option for 2013 or a $250,000 buyout. That could be acceptable money for a backup for the Sox if one of their prospects steps forward.

What do you think about the idea?
