Check out the statistics for Dustin Pedroia and Robinson Cano so far:
Pedroia: .302/.343/.573 with 14 extra-base hits, 18 RBI, 15 runs scored, 7 walks, 13 strikeouts. 139 OPS+
Cano: .400/.436/.765 with 14 extra-base hits, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored, 6 walks, 10 strikeouts. 225 OPS+
Pedroia already had a little slump, something Cano hasn’t experienced yet. They’re far and away the two best second basemen in the league. It’ll be fun to watch who ends up having the best season. History gives Pedroia an edge, but Cano has always been capable of great things.
Both are exceptional defenders as well. Cano had some bad habits in the field when he first came up but has put those aside. Pedroia, as you know, goes after every ball like the World Series is on the line.
Did you know Pedroia was 10 months younger than Cano? That surprised me for whatever reason.
