Pre-game updates from Fenway Park

Trot Nixon is here to take part in the pre-game ceremonies for Nomar Garciaparra. He was in the clubhouse before the game catching up with his former teammates.

As for the current-day Red Sox, Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury took early batting practice this afternoon and are expected to again in a few minutes. Terry Francona said there would soon be a decision on whether they would need minor-league rehab games.

Cameron has been consistent in saying that he would. Ellsbury hasn’t really said. But he hasn’t played since April 11 and it would be tough to expect him to go out and face live pitching again without at least a day or two of preparation.

I asked Ellsbury between BP sessions how he felt.

“Fine,” he said. “I’m getting into the swing of it, literally.”

At least he still has his sense of humor.

Back with more later on.
