State of the Sox: The Sox have won four of their last five games and will try yet again to get three games over .500 for the first time this season. They are 5-4 in their 13-game stretch against the Tigers, Twins, Yankees, Phillies and Rays.

Oh boy, it’s Roy: Halladay has treated the National League like Pony League so far, allowing 65 hits over 71.1 innings and walking only 10.

However …

He is 14-14 with a 4.28 ERA against the Red Sox in his career, 6-7, 3.72 in the last three years. He has more losses against the Red Sox than any other team he has faced.

Further, Halladay has thrown 118+ pitches in each of his last four starts including 132 pitches against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Through nine starts, he has thrown 70.1 innings 1,006 pitches. That’s the most he has ever worked through the first nine starts of his career.

Some of the Red Sox also have good numbers against him:

Ellsbury 7-27
Pedroia 8-38
Martinez 5-15
Youkilis 19-54
Drew 9-30
Beltre 4-24
Hermida 2-3
Scutaro 3-7

Francona also has a weapon in David Ortiz, who is 27 of 99 against Halladay with six home runs.

Wake is waiting: Tim Wakefield has not won a game since last July 8. He is 0-4 with a 5.55 ERA since then and the Red Sox are 3-10 in the games he has appeared in.

But Wakefield has been solid in his last four appearances, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over 13.1 innings. He has 189 career wins.

Big slump for the little guy: Pedroia has four hits in his last 35 at-bats and is down to .267 on the season.

Go shopping for line drives at V-Mart: Martinez is 9 of his last 16 with six extra-base hits.

On the iPod right now: The Captain by Kasey Chambers.

Back with much more later on.
