Good morning from the Dave “The Hammer” Schultz International Airport here in Philadelphia. We’re here waiting for a flight to Tampa and the continuation of the Red Sox road trip.
One question baseball writers get a lot is whether we travel with the team. We do not. The team has a charter flight and they leave for the next city immediately after the game. The writers aren’t invited and we couldn’t make it anyway because we have stories to write.
Given wireless technology, it’s more possible than it used to be. But it’s not the team’s job to ferry us around, regardless. So every media outlet makes its own travel plans.
The Sox could make two roster moves in the next few days. Spare infielder Angel Sanchez is almost sure to head back to Pawtucket so the Red Sox can add a 12th pitcher for the Rays series. That could be Scott Atchison or perhaps big lefty Dustin Richardson.
It also seems fairly likely that Mike Cameron will join the team in Tampa Bay. They could give him today off and activate him on Tuesday. After 31 plate appearances in the minors, he should be ready.
It’s amazing to think, but the Sox have not had their expected lineup on the field since April 11 in Kansas City. Once they get Josh Beckett back, they’ll be whole again.
So did you watch Lost last night? I tried watching it a few years ago, got confused and gave up. I need less confusion in my life, not more.
Finally, Sox fans should raise their cup of coffee to old friend Jason Bay this morning. His two homers helped the Mets beat the Yankees last night and now the Sox are a mere 2.5 games back in the wild-card race.
Thanks for reading. Check back later for the pitching matchups and more.
