Kelly picks up first Double-A victory

In the minor league notebook on Friday, Casey Kelly discussed his recent struggles and the belief that the tough times would help him become a better pitcher.

It didn’t take long.

Kelly had his best performance of the season today, throwing six shutout innings against Reading to lift the Portland Sea Dogs to a 6-0 victory at Hadlock Field.

In his first win of the season, Casey scattered four hits, walked one and struck out four. Big Anthony Rizzo hit his fifth homer for Portland while Ray Chang drove in three runs.

The Sea Dogs lost the second game 8-5.
