Atchison roots on his old team in CWS

A few random notes for you:

* Scott Atchison, a proud Horned Frog, was watching TCU in the College World Series in the clubhouse. After chucking three innings yesterday, he has today off.

* Supplemental first-round draft pick Anthony Ranaudo is scheduled to pitch for Brewster tomorrow afternoon in the Cape Cod League against Bourne. The game is set for 5 p.m. at Stony Brook Field in Brewster.

* The Red Sox have started nine players in the outfield this season. Can you name them all?

Here they are, listed by number of games started (counting today):

J.D. Drew (61)
Jeremy Hermida (37)
Darnell McDonald (36)
Bill Hall (28)
Mike Cameron (21)
Jacoby Ellsbury (9)
Daniel Nava (7)
Jonathan Van Every (6)
Josh Redick (5)

Remarkably, today is the 16th time in 70 games the Red Sox have hit their outfielders 7-8-9 in the batting order.

Next time somebody tells you Terry Francona’s not a good manager, ask them how the Red Sox are 41-28 with that sort of outfield in the American League.
