If you’re a baseball purist, prepare for your sensibilities to be a little offended this evening.
A giant soccer ball has been mowed into the grass just behind second base in shallow center field. It’s a promotional gimmick for the soccer game that will be held at Fenway on July 21 between teams from Scotland and Portugal.
There are also soccer nets in the outfield. Presumably they’ll move those before the game.
The Yankees are miffed at the damage in their outfield from the ring set up for the Cotto-Foreman boxing match on June 5. It’ll be interesting to see how much the outfield at Fenway gets chewed up by the soccer game.
