Papi moving on up the home run list

David Ortiz hit his 334th career home run last night. Here is where he stands on the career list:

84. Tino Martinez, Dave Parker, Boog Powel 339
87. Don Baylor 338
88. Joe Adcock 336
89. Darryl Strawberry 335
90. David Ortiz 334

Tino Martinez hit 339 home runs? Does that surprise anybody else? I also would have figured Boog Powell for a few more.

I covered a few games Darryl played in his final years with the Yankees. He was a shell of himself and had the face of an old man. There was a lot of hard living and late nights in that face. But when he felt good and got the barrel of his bat on the ball, man, it was something to see.

Guys like Boog, Straw and Papi are fun to watch. Old-timey sluggers are worth the price of admission when they get one and crush it.
