State of the Sox: The Sox were beaten 5-1 by the Mariners last night, dropping a game that saw Jon Lester take a perfect game into the sixth inning. The Sox are 3-3 on their 10-game road trip and 4-6 since the All-Star break.
Mr. 3,000: Today is the 3,000th broadcast on NESN for Jerry Remy. Congrats, Jerry.
Darker sunglasses maybe? The Red Sox are 46-27 in night games, the best record in the majors. But they are 9-16 in day games.
Dice-K time: Matsuzaka has allowed three earned runs over 12.2 innings in his last two starts. He allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out 11. The Diceman is 3-1 with a 3.99 ERA in six career starts against Seattle, 2-0, 2.39 in four games at Safeco Field.
First time for everything: The Red Sox are facing Fister for the first time. The only player on the roster with any experience against him is Eric Patterson, who is 1 for 5.
No Safe haven: Adrian Beltre is 2 for 12 in the series. He must really hate this park.
Other stuff: Jed Lowrie is 2 for 11 since he was activated. … Seattle has lost 13 of 17. … Sox catchers are 11 of 71 (.155) since Victor Martinez went on the DL and haven’t driven in a run since June 29. … Kevin Youkilis has hit in five straight at 10 of 27.
