The trading deadline has come and gone, and after a conversation between Mike Lowell, Terry Francona and Theo Epstein following last night’s win, there still has not been a roster move involving the veteran infielder.
Francona said that the team had planned on activating Lowell from the disabled list, where he had been since June 24, but following the conversation with Epstein, the decision was to discuss the matter a bit further.
“We were going to activate him, and then there was some conversation that’s probably up the food chain from me a little bit that probably needs to continue to happen,” Francona said.
The Sox were actively trying to trade Lowell before yesterday’s trade deadline but were unable to find any takers. Any trade that would take place would require Lowell to clear waivers, which he has said he expects would happen.
