Here an interesting piece by Dave Cameron of FanGraphs.com on the value of Adrian Beltre.
He projects Beltre being worth three years/$45 million. That sounds reasonable to me, although I’m sure Scott Boras would disagree.
Beltre’s family has stayed at their home in California for most of the season and there is no doubt he will enter the market after the season. He probably would prefer a team on the West Coast but money always talks loudest in the end.
The Red Sox have an interesting choice to make. They could view Beltre as a perfect player in their lineup, a mixture of power and defense who is worth paying for. Or they could determine that he’ll never be better than he was this season, cut ties and use the money elsewhere.
Either way, the guy sure has been fun to watch play this season. That second home run he hit last night was the hardest ball I have seen hit this season.
