BALTIMORE – Clay Buchholz was named the American League pitcher of the month for August.
Buchholz was 4-0 with a 1.03 ERA in six starts, five of which were seven innings or more and allowed no more than one earned run in any of those starts. He also beat three divisional opponents – Toronto (twice) and New York.
Buchholz, who has a major league best 2.21 ERA, is a Cy Young candidate.
He was in Baltimore, but left moments ago to return to Boston, where he’s scheduled to start tomorrow night’s home opener against the Chicago White Sox.
