In stunning news, Jayson Werth has signed up with Scott Boras after dumping his previous agent on the eve of free agency.
Now Boras tells Fox Sports that Werth is a center fielder and should get a Matt Holliday type of deal:
“He has the closing speed to play center,” Boras says. “It makes your team so different. Normally you get that production out of a corner outfielder. … Werth is a totally different type of player. He’s an athlete who can play center field, run, steal bases, be a Gold Glove type outfielder.”
Werth works the count and his OPS is over .900. The Red Sox will certainly have to consider him. The question becomes whether you want him as your right-handed power or the return of Adrian Beltre (also a Boras client) and Victor Martinez.
More in a bit on Beltre and Martinez and their value to the Red Sox.
