Red Sox outright Hill to Pawtucket

The Red Sox have outrighted lefthanded reliever Rich Hill to Triple A Pawtucket. He will become a free agent five days after the World Series.

Hill pitched well in a six-game September audition for the Sox. He allowed five hits over four scoreless innings, walking one and striking out three. Lefthanded hitters were 1 for 8 against him.

The Sox have indicated a willingness to give the Milton, Mass., native a chance to make the team next spring on a minor-league contract.

A native of Milton who now lives in South Boston, Hill has spent parts of six seasons in the majors, going 22-20 with a 4.82 earned run average.
