David Ortiz is at the Heat-Celtics game tonight and the Globe’s Mike Vega tracked him down at halftime.
Big Papi said the Red Sox have yet to tell him whether they will pick up his $12.5 million contract option for next season. That deadline comes three days after the World Series. Ortiz said he was confident he would remain with the team next season.
“We’re going to talk next week,” he said.
If the Red Sox do not exercise their option, they could sign Ortiz to a new deal. Otherwise the All-Star DH would become a free agent five days after the World Series.
Ortiz hit .270 with 32 home runs and 102 RBI this season.
