Red Sox lose Lovullo to Toronto

New Toronto manager (and former Red Sox pitching coach) John Farrell has hired Class AAA Pawtucket manager Torey Lovullo as his first base coach.

Lovullo spent only one season with the Red Sox after eight years managing in the Cleveland organization. He and Farrell worked closely together in Cleveland when Farrell was that organization’s director of player development.

The PawSox were 66-78 under Lovullo, but the Red Sox thought highly of his skills both in terms of managing and developing players. The Red Sox lost Pawtucket hitting coach Gerald Perry to Oakland’s major-league staff last month.

Toronto also hired former Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu as bench coach and Pat Hentgen as bullpen coach.
