Crawford ran wild on the Red Sox

You know who must be thrilled the Red Sox landed Carl Crawford?

Jason Varitek.

Crawford has stolen 35 consecutive stolen bases against the Red Sox, the longest streak by a player since Vince Coleman swiped 57 in a row against the Mets from 1985-90. The last time Crawford was caught stealing by the Red Sox was on Sept. 21, 2005 when Tim Wakefield caught him leaning.

You have to go back to 2004 for the last time a catcher threw him out. That was Varitek.

In his career, Crawford is 62 of 66 on steals against the Sox. He has stolen more bases against Boston than any other team and its not even close. Next is Baltimore with 53.

If you can’t beat him, sign him.

As for Crawford today, he and his agents are in Boston finalizing the paperwork on his contract. He’ll be getting a physical, too, if he hasn’t already. No word on when his press conference will be.
