Greetings from Gate C-12

Good morning from Logan, where we’re waiting for a flight to … wait for it … Fort Myers.

I would shout “woo hoo!” at this point, but all the old folks sitting near me might get rattled.

Pitchers and catchers aren’t scheduled to report until Feb. 13, but activity will pick up this week and the Globe and will be there to chronicle all of it. By the time the Red Sox have their first workout, we’ll have seven staff members on the ground including columnists and photographers.

You’ll get plenty of insights from Nick Cafardo, Dan Shaughnessy, Bob Ryan, Chris Gasper, Mike Vega and others.

There will be blogs entries throughout the day, videos, photos, episodes of Globe 10.0 and plenty of stories in the paper as what should be an interesting 2011 season kicks off.

This will be my ninth spring training, the second with the Red Sox. I had three seasons in Port St. Lucie with the Mets and four with the Yankees in Tampa before coming home. Covering teams with passionate fan bases is a lot of fun, so feel free to e-mail me with any ideas you have for stories or blog entries. And if you’re in Fort Myers, please say hello.

Send us your spring training photos, too. There’s plenty of room on the internet, right? This blog is only as good as its readers and we want your contributions and ideas.

Finally, if you’re on Twitter, please follow @PeteAbe and @nickcafardo for even more coverage.

At the moment, 61 players will be in camp for the Sox. Between now and April 1, it should be a lot of fun to see what sort of team emerges.

Baseballs popping under palm trees won’t melt the snow. But it should warm your heart. Stay tuned.
