Red Sox prospect suspended for PED use

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Red Sox minor league pitcher William Abreu, who is currently on the roster of the club’s Dominican Summer League team, tested positive for metabolites of Nandrolone according to Major League Baseball and has been suspended for 50 games.

Abreu’s suspension will be effective at the start of this season.

Abreu, 19, signed with the organization last fall and has yet to play in a game.
