Drew undecided on retirement

FORT MYERS, Fla. — J.D. Drew met with the media for the first time today. The key question was about his future. Drew is 35 and entering the final year of his contract. He spoke about retiring at this time last year.

“I haven’t thought a lot about it,” he said, explaining that he has talked about it with his wife and hopes to decide more as the season unfolds. He hit .255/.341/.452 last season, struggled against lefties and struck out 105 times.

But a bounce-back season would certainly give Drew reason to consider returning.

Drew has earned close to $100 million in his career, a testament to the powers of Scott Boras considering he has made one All-Star team and received MVP votes once in his career.

Drew also said his troublesome left hamstring has been feeling better of late. Camp will be a good test of that.
