Crawford taking tomorrow off and other notes from Red Sox camp

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Carl Crawford has some business to attend to in Houston tomorrow. His first game, bench coach DeMarlo Hale said, would be on Monday.

Here are some other notes from camp:

• Condolences to Terry Francona on the death of his grandmother. Josephine Francona, 95, passed away on Wednesday in Beaver Falls, Pa. The manager missed today’s workout but is expected back tomorrow.

• Adrian Gonzalez took 45 swings off a tee today and is set to progress to soft toss according to Hale.

• LHP Dennys Reyes will report tomorrow. He was delayed in Mexico because of a visa issue.


• Today was ostensibly the final workout the Red Sox will have at the player development complex as the new stadium and practice facility is due to open next year.

• J.D. Drew will play his first game on Monday, too.

• Jacoby Ellsbury, out sick yesterday, was back today and ready to play tomorrow.

• The Sox will “call up” 10 minor leaguers for tomorrow’s doubleheader. They are:

Aaron Bates, Bubba Bell, Alex Hassan, Jeremy Hazelbaker, Peter Hissey, Ryan Khoury, David Mailman, Will Middlebrooks, Jorge Padron, Matt Sheely,

• Boston College will start senior RHP Geoff Oxley tomorrow. It will be his first appearance since April 4, 2010 due to Tommy John surgery. Oxley, of Evansville, Ind., is 3-1, 4.91 in 40 career relief appearances for the Eagles.

BC is 2-2 going into this afternoon’s game against Florida in Gainesville. The BC kids will go from Gainesville to Fort Myers (four hours) in a bus tonight then back to Gainesville for another game against the Gators on Sunday.

• Northeastern opens its season today against Sacred Heart in West Palm Beach.
