Live updates: Braves at Red Sox

Final: Braves 6, Red Sox 1

Despite David Ortiz going 3 for 3 with a steal, the Sox fell.

Bottom of the 9th: Braves 6, Red Sox 1

Three outs left. Off to the clubhouse for me. Check back later for some notes.

Top of the 9th: Braves 6, Red Sox 1

Long road back for the Sox. Navarro now playing third. The Sox have Tommy Hottovy pitching.

Middle of the 8th: Braves 6, Red Sox 1

Something happened and the Braves scored a run. I have to admit, I was working on my story for tomorrow and didn’t notice. But all of the starters are long out of the game.

Top of the 8th: Braves 5, Red Sox 1

The Sox had the bases loaded with two outs but Daniel Nava flied deep to right to end the inning.

Middle of the 7th: Braves 5, Red Sox 1

Rough inning for Alex Wilson, a 24-year-old pitcher who finished last season in Portland. He walked four batters and that led to three runs.

Top of the 7th: Braves 2, Red Sox 1

Weiland had a 1-2-3 inning. In the bottom of the frame, Ortiz singled with two outs and Drew walked before Lowrie grounded out.

Not to get nutty, but Ortiz is 5 for 8 this spring with a homer.

Alex Wilson now pitching.

Top of the 6th: Braves 2, Red Sox 1

1-2-3 inning for Cristhian Martinez. Atlanta pitching has retired 13 of the last 15 batters. Weiland stays in the game for the Sox.

Crawford, Drew, Lowrie, and Pedroia are still in the game. Ellsbury is out.

Middle of the 5th: Braves 2, Red Sox 1

Rocky inning for Kyle Weiland, who allowed a run on three hits.

Top of the 5th: Red Sox 1, Braves 1

Well, that was fun. David Ortiz (2 for 2) singled and then stole second. He so shocked the Braves that there was no throw and he went in standing. Alas, he was stranded when Varitek flied to deep right.

Middle of the 4th: Red Sox 1, Braves 1

Bounce-back inning for Okajima as he struck out Hinske (a lefty) and Gonzalez before Freeman flied to right, a towering shot that got caught up in the wind. Okajima threw 16 pitches, 10 strikes.

Top of the 4th: Red Sox 1, Braves 1

Scott Proctor, the former Yankee, walked Spears to start the inning. But he easily handled Ellsbury (P-6), Pedroia (K), and Crawford (3-1). Now Hideki Okajima is in for the Sox.

Middle of the 3d: Red Sox 1, Braves 1

Atchison probably has a spot in the bullpen. But just in case, he’s pitching well. Three up, three down, all in the infield.

Top of the 3d: Red Sox 1, Braves 1

Three batters, three groundouts for Hudson. Scott Atchison replaces Lackey.

Middle of the 2d: Red Sox 1, Braves 1

That lead didn’t last long. Another old friend, Alex Gonzalez, parked a 1-2 pitch way over everything in left. Lackey allowed a bloop single by Lucas with two outs but got Prado to ground into a force.

He threw 41 pitches (25 strikes) and is likely done for the day

Top of the 2d: Red Sox 1, Braves 0

Ellsbury reached on an infield single before Pedroia walked. Crawford grounded to second and beat the double play. Ortiz’s single to center scored Ellsbury but Crawford was thrown out by 10 feet going to third as he hesitated. Drew then struck out.

Middle of the 1st: Braves 0, Red Sox 0

Lackey needed 22 pitches but he got through the inning. With two outs, Heyward grounded a single into right. Then Uggla had a little flare into left. But old friend Eric Hinske grounded to first on a 3-2 pitch.

Pre-game: Good afternoon from City of Palms, where it’s 81 and sunny. It’ll be the Sox against the Braves and John Lackey against Tim Hudson for a few innings.
