Ryan Lavarnway, spelling David Ortiz as the DH, doubled down the left field scoring Linares. Linares reached on an error by the shortstop to lead off the inning and McDonald also stroked his second hit, a single.
Bottom 5th: Cardinals 7, Red Sox 3
Been touting Juan Carlos Linares a lot, but he misplayed Matt Holliday’s slicing liner to right and it fell for a double, sending Pujols (single) to third. Berkman’s infield hit brought in the tying run and Gerald Laird’s single to right gave the Cards the lead. All of this came against Jason Rice, who also allowed a bases loaded walk, a Ryan Theriot two-run single and another run scored on Oscar Tejeda’s error. Ugly.
Top 5th: Red Sox 3, Cardinals 2
Navarro really puts a nice swing on a ball. He’s 2-for-3 today but flew out to right field. The Sox went down 1-2-3.
Bottom 4th: Red Sox 3, Cardinals 2
Brandon Duckworth retired the first five batters he faced, then walked two of the next three and allowed a single (to Matt Carpenter) to load the bases with two outs before retiring Colby Rasmus to end the inning.

A two-out single by Yamaico Navarro has given the Sox the lead. Linares also beat out an infield hit on a routine grounder to shortstop. Theriot didn’t anticipate Linares can run a little and stayed back on the ball. Wagner struck out to end the inning, stranding two. He’s also knocked into a DP.
Bottom 2nd: Cardinals 2, Red Sox 2
Stolmy Pimental retired the first two batters but then allowed a pair of hits to Matt Carpetnter and Ryan Theriot before being pulled after 47 pitches.

Jacoby Ellsbury lined a two-out double to left field scoring Mark Wagner with Boston’s first run and Darnell McDonald got Ellsbury in with a single to left to tie. The Sox had put the first two runners on base when Yamaico Navarro singled to right and Juan Carlos Linares walked. Wagner knocked into a 5-4 DP, but Ellsbury didn’t let the inning die.
Bottom 1st: Cardinals 2, Red Sox 0
RHP Stolmy Pimental needed no reminder that he was facing the Cardinals’ ‘A’ lineup today, but the Cards reminded him nonetheless. Pimental didn’t help himself when he walked leadoff hitter Ryan Theriot. After he struck out Colby Rasmus, Albert Pujols doubled down the third base line scoring Theriot. Matt Holliday singled up the middle scoring Pujols. Lance Berkman also singled but Yadier Molina knocked into a DP to end it.

Underway here in Jupiter. Jacoby Ellsbury reached on an infield hit, stole second, and after a one-out walk to David Ortiz and a two-out walk by Oscar Tejeda to load the bases, lefty Jamie Garcia got out of the mess when he got Lars Anderson to tap back to the mound.
