The game ended in a nine-inning tie.

Middle of the 9th: Rays 1, Red Sox 1

Blake Maxwell allowed a single but that was it. Now the Sox look for a walk-off win before they walk away from City of Palms.

Top of the 9th: Rays 1, Red Sox 1

Albers worked around a leadoff single. The Sox went in order in the bottom of the inning, Salty flied to deep left for the third out.

Top of the 8th: Rays 1, Red Sox 1

Wheeler retired the side in order. In the bottom of the inning, Lowrie walked and Cameron singled to get something started. But Spears grounded into a double play before McDonald struck out looking.


Sox pitching has allowed only two hits.

Red Sox reportedly acquire catcher

The Sox sent RHP Daniel Turpen to the Rockies for Class AAA catcher Mike McKenry according to the New York Post. The 25-year-old hit .265 with 10 homers and 49 RBIs last season. He also appeared in six games for the Rockies.

Top of the 7th: Rays 1, Red Sox 1

Wakefield allowed a single by Jaso then picked him off. A strikeout and a pop-up ended the inning and a good two innings for Wakefield.

Sutton walked and went to third on a single by Saltalamacchia. But Padron struck out and Hoover flied to right.

Top of the 6th: Rays 1, Red Sox 1

Wakefield retired the side in order. Spears walked with two outs but McDonald fanned. The teams are motoring through this one.

Red Sox, Rockies talking trade

A major league source tells the Globe the Red Sox are working on completing a trade with the Rockies. It would likely be minor in nature.

The Rockies have infield depth, perhaps that is what interests the Sox. More on this to come.

Top of the 5th: Rays 1, Red Sox 1

Rodriguez walked, stole second and third and scored on a single by Elliot Johnson, the first (and only) hit for the Rays.


Gonzalez homered to start the bottom of the inning, an easy swing that sent the ball over the fence in left center. Drew doubled with two outs but Vartiek struck out.

Wakefield now into pitch.

Top of the 4th: Rays 0, Red Sox 0

Ten up and nine down for Buchholz. His line: 3 0 0 0 1 2. Scutaro started the bottom of the inning with a single before Ellsbury flied deep to center, Pedroia popped out and Crawford grounded to first. Pedroia and Crawford were subbed out of the game. Spears is now at second and McDonald in center.

Top of the 3rd: Rays 0, Red Sox 0

Buchholz walked Joyce with two outs then struck out Brignac. Drew singled with two outs for the Sox before Varitek grounded out.

Top of the 2nd: Rays 0, Red Sox 0

Buchholz retired the side in order on 16 pitches. Pedroia singled for the Sox but that was it. Crawford flied deep to center and Gonzalez hit a one-hopper back to the mound.

Pre-game: Good afternoon from City of Palms Park, where the Red Sox will play their final home game today. The Sox have been here since 1993.

There are all manner of Lee County and Fort Myers officials here for the big day. The team is giving away commemorative baseballs to mark the occasion.

Terry Francona said he plans to give the starters 3-4 at-bats and use all the 25-man roster subs. The roster today also includes Nate Spears, Drew Sutton, Will Vazquez, Daniel Turpen, Blake Maxwell, Jason Rice, Jonathan Hee, Jorge Padron and Alex Hassan.
