Francona and Washington took the same path to becoming managers

It’s interesting how similar today’s managers — Terry Francona and Ron Washington — were as players.

Francona played 707 games for five teams from 1981-90. He hit .274 with a .652 OPS and 16 home runs.

Washington played 564 games for five teams from 1977-89. He hit .261 with a .659 OPS and 20 home runs.

Using the Baseball Play Index to search for comparable players of this generation, you can expect Josh Wilson or Wilson Valdez to become managers at some point.
