Lefthanded pitcher Felix Doubront has been activated from the disabled list for today’s game, the Globe’s Peter Abraham reports from Fenway Park.
Lefthanded reliever Dennys Reyes was designated for assignment.
During his pre-game press conference, manager Terry Francona reported that the team placed RHP Matt Albers on the disabled list with a strained right latissimus. “The other night in Cleveland he was warming up and felt it, then he sat down and warmed it up again and said he felt pretty good,” Francona said. “The next day it kind of grabbed at him a little bit, so we kind of stayed away from him. We don’t think he’s going to be terribly long [on the DL]. I think the last thing we need to do is to run him out there today or tomorrow and hurt him.”
Asked about his decision to designate Reyes for assignment, Francona said, “Obviously, it was a very short look. It’s hard to have a lefty when you have one lefty who wasn’t throwing the ball over the plate. So we love Doubront, but he wasn’t ready to pitch when we left [spring training]. I think getting Felix here, we’re very excited about, but I know it was a short leash with Dennys, but we need to try and win some games.”
