OAKLAND — Matt Albers, who went on disabled list on April 8 with a sore lat, will join the team in Anaheim on Thursday. That could mean RHP Alfredo Aceves returns to Pawtucket.
Albers pitched two scoreless innings for Class AA Pawtucket tonight against Syracuse, allowing one hit and striking out one. He threw 17 of 27 pitches for strikes and hit 94 with his fastball. Albers pitched three scoreless innings in two rehab appearances.
Here’s what he told Globe colleague Mike Vega before the game: “I haven’t had any issues. It was probably about five days after the incident happened that I haven’t felt anything. It was more of a precautionary move [going on the DL]. They didn’t want it to become any
worse than it was, but I probably needed a few days to get it rested. But I feel good.”
UPDATE, 10:39 p.m.: Here’s what Albers said post-game:
“Felt good. I got loose quick and it was a cold night [game-tome temperature: 45 degrees] so it was probably a good test. Everything felt good. Felt good warming up. Got
loose quick and I’m ready to get back.'”
