Rich Hill told reporters today that he has a three-quarters tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. Red Sox Dr. Tom Gill has recommended surgery. Hill will “very soon” get a second opinion just to make sure. But he has resigned himself to the idea of going under the knife.
“The MRI showed that it was three-quarters of the way torn. So I’ve got to go from there and get a second opinion and see what we want to do,” said Hill, who hasn’t decided what doctor he will see.
“The frustrating part if that you find a niche for yourself in the bullpen. To have something happen that possibly season-ending, it’s something that’s tough to swallow. But at the same time, if it is a surgical procedure that needs to happen, the success rate is there and you rehab.”
