Catcher Blake Swihart, who the Red Sox selected with the 26th overall in the draft, just finished a conference call with Boston-area reporters.
Globe colleague Nicole Auerbach reports that Swihart said the University of Texas was his “dream school” and is “Plan A right now.”
Lots and lots of money has a way of making pro ball a young man’s dream, too.
The Sox, meanwhile, took RHP Noe Ramirez of Cal State-Fullerton at 142 overall (4th round)
In other draft news, NESN will have Lawrence Academy’s Tyler Beede, Toronto’s first round pick, on the pre-game show tonight along with RHP Patrick Connaughton (St John’s Prep) and RHP John Magliozzi of the Dexter School. They could get selected later today.
UPDATE, 2:28 p.m.: The Sox have taken SS Mookie Betts of John Overton (Tenn) High School in the fifth round. I have no idea how good he is. But Mookie Betts is a heck of a name. He signed with Tennessee.
