Veteran righthander Kevin Millwood, who had been pitching for Class AAA Pawtucket since June 1, was granted his release yesterday.
Millwood was 5-1 with a 4.28 ERA in 13 starts for the PawSox. Over 73.2 innings, Millwood allowed 79 hits with 25 walks and 66 strikeouts. The 36-year-old was signed on May 19 after being given his release by the Yankees.
Millwood is 7-2, 4.36 in 16 minor league starts all told this season but scouts didn’t feel he would fare well in the majors, particularly his diminished fastball.
