At long last, compensation for the Red Sox?

The Associated Press is reporting tonight that the Red Sox and Cubs have submitted written arguments to commissioner Bud Selig regarding their idea of proper compensation for Theo Epstein.

It has been nearly four months since Epstein resigned as general manager of the Sox with one year left on his contract to become vice president of baseball operations for the Cubs.

Selig initially said he would intercede in the stalled negotiations in November but that deadline passed without his taking action. But when the teams remained unable to reach an agreement, Selig interceded again and now, apparently, will see it through to a conclusion.

A decision is expected soon, probably by the end of the week.
