FORT MYERS, Fla. — David Ortiz said he is “happy” with his one-year, $14.575 million deal with the Red Sox.
“I feel happy since I avoided going to arbitration,” Ortiz told the Associated Press. “People are used to see me with the Red Sox uniform and when you have so much time in one organization, and you’re identified with it, the best thing is to stay, even if it is for 1 or 2 million less.
“I figured I was going to reach this deal, and that’s what we’re celebrating right now.”
The Red Sox, according to Ben Cherington, remain interested in Roy Oswalt. Now that the Ortiz situation is settled, perhaps the Red Sox have a better understanding of what they can (or can not) offer Oswalt.
