Good morning from Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. — We media wretches will be getting a tour of JetBlue Park later on today, around 1 p.m. I’ll report back with what we see and a few photos.

I’m in the new press box for the first time now. It’s pretty sweet. The park really is beautiful, although they have a lot of work to do to clean it up and finish off the detail work before the first game.

As to other matters:

• Pitchers and catchers do not officially report until Sunday. Their first official workout will be Tuesday. But most everybody is here outside of a few guys.

For now, the players are going through informal workouts. The do some stretching, a little running and the throw bullpens every other day. The position guys take batting practice and either grounders or fly balls. It’s fairly low key for now but the pace will pick up on Tuesday.

Valentine and bench coach Tim Bogar have the days planned down to the minute and there won’t be a lot of standing around. The Sox also will be on the field about 30 minutes longer than in previous seasons.

• According to Nick, the Theo Epstein compensation issue is nigh. I don’t know about you, but at this point I don’t much care what they get. I’m tired of hearing about this.

• Nothing new on Jason Varitek or Tim Wakefield. Kind of a tricky spot for the Red Sox, who aren’t obligated to announce anything. But at the same time, fans want to know. I would guess it’s up to Jason and Tim to announce anything.
