Pedroia ready to play after being hit

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Dustin Pedroia had a wrap on his right arm this morning after being hit by a pitch from the Yankees’ Adam Warren on Thursday night.

“Just a bruise,” he said.

X-rays were negative and Pedroia said he would try hitting in the cage. He was scratched from today’s game but hopes to play on Saturday.

In other news:

• David Ortiz, Cody Ross, Ryan Lavarnway, Jose Iglesias, Ryan Sweeney and Felix Doubront are on the travel squad for Jupiter to play the Marlins tomorrow.

• Bobby Valentine was making some cuts this morning. Outfielder Alex Hassan and catcher Max St. Pierre were among those called into his office.

• Here is how the pitching lines up for the next few days:

Friday at Baltimore: Buchholz, Albers, Thomas.

Saturday at Miami: Doubront, Mathis, Thomas.

Saturday vs. Philadelphia: Aceves, Morales, Bailey, Padilla.

Sunday at Toronto: Bard, Bailey, Atchison, Thomas.

Monday at Philadelphia: Lester, Albers, Atchison, Ohlendorf.

Bard is scheduled for six innings. So obviously he remains in competition for a rotation spot.
