CHICAGO — Globe colleague Nick Cafardo is reporting that Carl Crawford could miss three months because of his elbow injury.
The Red Sox will be issuing a statement shortly, we’re told.
Suffice it to say, that seven-year, $142 million deal is looking worse every day. Crawford had the worst season of his career in 2011 and there may not be much of a 2012 season for him.
In other news:
• Cody Ross (left knee) is getting a day off but is available to pinch hit. Bobby Valentine expects that he will play on Friday. “I’m fine,” said Ross, who was wearing an elastic sleeve on his knee. “We’re just being careful.”
The Sox will roll the dice with Lars Anderson in left field. He has no major league experience there and only our games at Pawtucket. And it’s windy here.
“I’ve watched him now for four days. He’s good off the fungo,” Valentine sad. “The reports on him are that he caught everything that was hit to him when he played. We’ll see. Hasn’t been challenged. I would say that the wind and the big league hitters will challenge him a little more than he’s been challenged before. He feels good about it.”
• Valentine said Rich Hill has passed all the tests that he needed to pass in his rehab and “It’s conceivable” he joins the team this weekend.
