Game over: Orioles 8, Red Sox 6: Jim Johnson might have blown the save in the ninth, but he got the win in the 10th as the Red Sox went down with a whimper after tying the game in the 9th. Game time was 3:34 and the attendance was 37,781.
Top 10th: Orioles 8, Red Sox 6: Awful night for Alfredo Aceves. He gave up two runs. He walked Reynolds to start the inning then allowed three straight singles after a sac bunt with Paulino and Chavez knocking in runs.
Bottom 9th: Orioles 6, Red Sox 6: Jarrod Saltalamacchia belted an opposite field two-run homer that was reviewed and upheld off Orioles closer Jim Johnson, who blew his first save of the season. He had saved 25 straight games since last August 11. It started with David Ortiz’ one-out single off the wall and after two outs, Salty struck with his 11th homer. he now has 27 RBI. It was Salty’s third hit of the game.
Top 9th: Orioles 6, Red Sox 4: Alfredo Aceves hold the two-run difference with a strong inning.
Bottom 8th: Orioles 6, Red Sox 4: The Great Nava couldn’t get it done, flying out to left, Aviles and Podsednik go down. Not looking good for the Sox.

Bottom 7th: Orioles 6, Red Sox 4: Kevin Youkilis hit the ball hard to right field but it was caught with one out. Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled off the wall and advanced on a passed ball, but he was stranded at third when Luis Ayala struck out Ryan Sweeney with a called third strike..
Top 7th: Orioles 6, Red Sox 4: Orioles rallied for three. Lester came out after Chavez singled. Scott Atchison and Matt Albers didn’t fare well this time. Andino singled to right, Hardy knocked in a run with a single to center. Wieters reached on an intentional walk and Reynolds and Pearce both knocked in runs with singles before Paulino knocked into a double-play to end the inning.
Bottom 6th: Red Sox 4, Orioles 3: Nice rally by the Sox to take the lead. Sweeney walked, Nava singled to left and Aviles singled to drive in the tying run. Podsednik then drove the ball to deep center to get the second run home.
Top 6th: Orioles 3, Red Sox 2: Adam Jones singled and eventually rode home on Steve Pearce’s sac fly.
Bottom 5th: Orioles 2, Red Sox 2: The Red Sox rallied finally. Daniel Nava (infield hit) and Mike Aviles (single to left) got things going. Scott Podsednik’s sac bunt attempt was fielded and misplayed at third base. A run scored. Everyone is safe. Dustin Pedroia knocked the second run in with a sacrifice fly.
Top 5th: Orioles 2, Red Sox 0: Lester allowed an infield hit to Robert Andino, but JJ Hardy knocked into a double play. Lester then struck out Adam Jones.
Bottom 4th: Orioles 2, Red Sox 0: Jarrod Saltalamacchia singled, but the Red Sox could muster little else against Hammel, who by the way resides in Rehoboth, Ma.
Top 4th: Orioles 2, Red Sox 0: Jon Lester had his second 1-2-3 inning.
Bottom 3rd: Orioles 2, Red Sox 0: Singles by Aviles and Podsednik, but no ability to drive them in. Dustin Pedroia struck out for the second time in the game and Adrian Gonzalez grounded out to end the threat.
Top 3rd: Orioles 2, Red Sox 0: Another one of those lapses by Jon Lester. He was obviously distracted by an Endy Chavez infield hit followed by a Mike Aviles error. After securing the second out, Lester put the next three hitters on base. Adam Jones knocked in a run with a single, Wieters drove in the other with a single and Mark Reynolds walked. Lester struck out Steve Pearce to end the inning.
Bottom 2nd: Orioles 0, Red Sox 0: Jason Hammel struck out Kevin Youkilis and Ryan Sweeney and walked Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Top 2nd: Orioles 0, Red Sox 0: Lester retired the O’s in order in the second inning and picked up his third strikeout on a swing by Ronny Paulino.
Bottom 1st: Orioles 0, Red Sox 0: Scott Podsednik walked and was caught stealing by Matt Wieters. Sox keep trying to steal against him.
Top 1st: Orioles 0, Red Sox 0: Jon Lester allowed a triple to JJ Hardy with one out but managed to escape without the run scoring. Lester entered the game with a 14-0 record in 19 games against the Birds.
