Cody Ross back in the lineup; Scott Podsednik to DL

Cody Ross, who spent time on the 15-day disabled list with broken navicular bone in his left foot, was back in the lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins

Although the move has yet to be officially announced by the Red Sox, it was fait accompli that Ross would be activated after doing a rehab stint with Triple A Pawtucket in Buffalo over the weekend.

Ross was penciled into Bobby Valentine’s lineup against the Marlin in left field, hitting out of the No. 7 spot in the order.

Update: 3:28 p.m. According to colleague Nick Cafardo, the Red Sox have placed Scott Podsednik on the the DL in a corresponding move to make room for Ross. Podsednik tweaked his groin running to first base Sunday night against the Chicago Cubs.

Update: 5:05 p.m. Valentine said before Tuesday night’s game that Ross was in the lineup but had yet to be activated pending the outcome of batting practice. Valentine wanted to take one more look to see how Ross responded in BP. With Podsednik injured, If Ross somehow is unable to go, Darnell McDonald looks to be the only other alternative in left.
